Mistakes to avoid when designing industrial facilities

Go back

Designing industrial facilities is a process that requires not only technical knowledge, but also the ability to anticipate, plan and match solutions to the real needs of the investor and the industry. Unfortunately, many mistakes made at the design stage can result in serious consequences on the construction site – from costly changes to delays and mismatching of the facility with the business.

At BAUREN – with many years of experience in designing halls, warehouses, manufacturing plants and office buildings – we know what pitfalls to avoid.

Najczęstsze błędy w projektowaniu obiektów przemysłowych

1. Failure to analyze the needs of the end user

This is the most common mistake that can ruin even the best-drawn project. If the designer fails to consider the real operational needs of the investor, the result can be a facility that is non-functional, difficult to use or too expensive to maintain. At BAUREN, we always start with a conversation – we want to understand how the plant will operate, what the technological processes are, how many people will use the facility and what the development plans are.

2. Inadequate site development

A poorly designed traffic layout, lack of space for expansion, or improper location of buildings in relation to the world’s sides can significantly reduce the efficiency of plant operations. The site should be planned with logistics, safety and local zoning regulations in mind.

3. Insufficient design flexibility

An industrial facility should be designed to adapt to changing conditions and needs. At BAUREN, we design with the future in mind – we anticipate the possibility of expansion, changing the function of rooms or modernizing technology.

4. Mismatch between installation and plant needs

Electrical, sanitary, ventilation or low-current installations must be designed with specific processes and equipment in mind. A mistake in this regard can result in the need for reconstruction already at the stage of equipping the facility. Proper planning of power reserves, locations for switchgear or process ducts is also crucial.

5. Design documentation that is too general or illegible

Working with general contractors, we know that good documentation is the basis for efficient construction. Vague drawings, lack of execution details or unclear guidelines can lead to execution errors. At BAUREN, we design with contractors in mind – we create documentation that can really be built.

6. Neglect of formal and legal issues

Errors in formal documentation, incompatibility with the local zoning plan, or incorrect assumptions about technical conditions – all of these can delay an investment for many months. That’s why our team includes people responsible for overseeing the regulations, analyzing the local zoning plan and preparing full documentation for the construction permit

BAUREN experience

At BAUREN, we know how important it is to prepare a thoughtful and complete project. Our team consists of experienced architects, constructors, trade designers and project coordinators who can anticipate and solve potential problems even before construction begins.

Thanks to our work with general contractors, we have an excellent understanding of what both the investor and the contractor need. We design with technology, regulations, cost and time in mind.

BAUREN at Coffee & Learn meeting with IDEA StatiCa – Katowice

On March 27, 2025 in Katowice, Poland, our BAUREN design office had the pleasure of participating in an event organized by IDEA StatiCa as part of the Coffee & Learn series – meetings dedicated to engineers of the construction industry. The main purpose of the event was to present modern FEA computational tools for the […]
